Antwerp - Day One - Meir and Rubenshuis

Dag!
//Dag! Now almost two month ago, we took advantage of a special discount price Megabus offered. So we drove to Antwerp, where we haven't been before. And we were really impressed, how beautiful the city is. The architecture of the city, with its many, well-preserved historical buildings induce a special atmosphere,
"In the 16th century, Antwerp was noted for the wealth of its citizens ("Antwerpia nummis"); the houses of these wealthy merchants and manufacturers have been preserved throughout the city.
" Antwerp has long been an important city in the Low Countries, both economically and culturally, especially before the Spanish Fury (1576) in the period of the Dutch Revolt."(Antwerp, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antwerp)
But the ones, who aren't interested in history, can just enjoy the flair and taste all the belgian delicacies. And there are manyyyyy. Starting with the belgian chocolate and pralines, continuing with the waffles (I can definately say, that I ate the best waffle of my life there) and finishing with fries. Oh, and I forgot the beer, which Belgium is also famous for. Hmmmm, the beeer.

So we started in Cologne and the busdrive only took 3 to 4 hours, but was very comfortable, because the bus was so empty, my bf and I both used 2 seats. When we arrived, we had to search our hotel, but it was easy to find, because it was near the central station. I think Antwerp is the only city I've been to, with a luxurious main station area, because there is the famous diamond district.
So after we checked in at our hotel, we directly went to one museum, I really wanted to visit, because it was recommended on tripadvisor by many people. The Rubenshuis aka Rubens House, the home of the famous flemish baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens.
I would say, it's a nice, small museum. Not too impressive, but interesting seeing the interior from that time.
To get there, we had to walk through the best known shoppingstreet of the city, the Meir, where I took the first photos.
